‘The Speakers Corner’

Take a one-way trip down to Crazytown as our three performers indulge the whims of their eccentric host! Using suspiciously detailed prompts, the cast will have to come up with quick sketches that’ll either captivate or confound your imagination.

How many short sketches can they create in one hour? Which performer will win the most points? How ‘eccentric’ can this host get? Find out when you swing by THE SPEAKERS’ CORNER!

Cast: Raemiguel Lee (Host) | Kevin Low | Nicole Ng | Parag Bhatnagar

Thugshop x FOMOHOMO Presents – Cashu and Jensen Interceptor

We’re teaming up with our homies at FOMOHOMO for a double-billed nighter with Cashu and Jensen Interceptor.

A pillar of São Paulo’s queer underground scene, Cashu is the co-founder of the Mamba Negra collective. They organise parties that platform diverse artists at off-shoot locations, all while sticking to their ethos of fighting for more female representation as well as sexual and gender freedom. On the stage, the Brazilian DJ exudes her dynamic presence – playing at major clubs and festivals like Panorama Bar/Berghain, De School and Dekmatel Festival.

Much like the grand tourer car that inspires his name, Jensen Interceptor’s sound has taken him on a global journey. From festivals across the States to clubs like Tresor and Mihn, and with tracks released on labels such as Craigie Knowes, Boys Noize Records, and Central Processing Unit – Jensen Interceptor’s touch reverberates intercontinentally.

On the 7th of December, they’ll be co-headliners at MDLR, ripping through turbocharged selections and grooves – keeping energy levels high and hot throughout. Opening the floor on the night will be sho&tell.

Thugshop Presents – MCMLXXXV

Two-steppers and speed demons, pack your towels, Berliner MCMLXXXV will be in our cages on the 24th of October.

The eclectic DJ wears the hat of co-founder and resident of Herrensauna, a notable queer-focused techno event from Germany’s capital. What started out as an intimate shindig in a sauna has now ignited into something bigger – together with fellow residents DJ Saliva, Salome, SPFDJ, GEM, and JASS, Herrensauna has hosted Boiler Room events in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Amsterdam, alongside multiple outings all over the globe.

As for himself, MCMLXXXV has turned dancefloors at institutions like Berlin’s Tresor and Amsterdam’s Lofi upside down, as well as the festival grounds of Awakenings, Nuit Sonores, and Flow at peak time.

With a sound that blends techno, EBM, trance, coupled with plenty of aces up his sleeves, there’s no doubting that MCMLXXXV is gonna have our walls shaking, and maybe leave the dancefloor shattered from all of that feisty footwork. Temperatures may heat up to sauna levels too, be prepared.

Kicking it all off is Bussy Temple’s co-founder and resident howrøng. Upstairs is closed on the night, so one floor with singular focus, all in sync at HQ.

No Readgrets Book Club Discussion on 14 Sep 2024: Geng Rebut Cabinet (GRC)

Our next book club event of the year explores the Malay identity and racial relations in this third volume of the Collected Plays series by Alfian Sa’at.

Book Summary:
Alfian Sa’at explores the Malay identity and racial relations in this third volume of the Collected Plays series. This volume collects plays written and staged in Malay, and translated to English for the very first time.

In Nadirah, a young woman is shocked to find out her mother wants to marry a non-Muslim. In Parah, a group of students can no longer ignore the stereotypes and prejudices that divide the races, and the strain it puts on their friendship. In Geng Rebut Cabinet (GRC), we’re transported to an alternate reality where the Chinese are the minority in Singapore. And in Your Sister’s Husband, five sisters try their hardest to reckon with their superstitious, old-fashioned eldest to farcical ends, raising questions about black sheep, outcasts and sociopaths.

No Readgrets discussions are safe spaces to nurture conversations and connections over inspiring books and explorations beyond their pages.

This time, we will be discussing these plays from Collected Plays Three:

  1. Nadirah
  2. Parah
  3. Geng Rebut Cabinet (GRC)
  4. Your Sister’s Husband

Event Flow:

  • 1100-1230: Book discussion
  • 1230-1300: Stay around to chat if you’d like to!

This is a ticketed event – please feel free to grab a beverage and some bites to support our amazing venue partner Crane. Slots are limited so sign up soon!

The book for discussion, Collected Plays Three is available at NLB libraries and major bookstores.

PSST! Upon purchasing a seat to our book club session, you’ll receive a special 10% discount code to attend the staging of Geng Rebut Cabinet (GRC)by Teater Ekamatra that’s happening from 5 to 15 September! Get your tickets here, and enter the discount code upon checkout!
