CVNTESSA x FOMOHOMO present: LADY SHAKA LIVE IN SINGAPORE

CVNTESSA & FOMOHOMO are back in 2025, babes, and we’re serving up no other than Lady Shaka, the unapologitically queer transgender Māori-Pacific queen who’s been sending booties bouncing from ADE to Underverket. Known for her involvement with queer collectives Pxssy Palace, Misery, and Filth, plus Pulotu Underworld, her event series turned global collective, Lady Shaka merges club music with cultural and ancestral sounds of the Pasifika experience – this London-via-Auckland DJ is a whole mood. Her work has been celebrated on platforms like Dazed Digital and The Face, and she’s the proud recipient of the Arts, Culture, and Creativity Award at the Pacific Music Awards 2023. Come correct or stay home—she’s bringing the heat hotter than your Grindr notifications on a Saturday night.

Featuring local icons DURIO (the sultry selector who knows how to make you sweat) and C2AC (yes, that one, trust), this lineup is serving nothing but excellence.

📅 4 January 2024
⏰ 10:30PM till late

LADY SHAKA (NZ/UK)

INSTAGRAM / SOUNDCLOUD / BOILER ROOM BERLIN

Lady Shaka is a multifaceted DJ, music producer, and interdisciplinary artist whose rich heritage encompasses Samoan, Tokelauan, Mā’ohi (Tahitian), Māori, and Cape Verdean roots. Originally hailing from Aotearoa (New Zealand) and currently based in London, her artistic endeavors reflect both her queer identity as a fem queen and her profound connections to whenua (land) and moana (ocean). Through her innovative music and art, Lady Shaka seeks to decolonize dancefloors and re-indigenize club culture, challenging mainstream narratives with a soundscape that is deeply cultural, ancestral, and emblematic of the Pasifika experience.

In recognition of her contributions, Lady Shaka received the prestigious ‘Creative New Zealand Award’ at the 2023 Pacific Music Awards, celebrating her role in shaping contemporary music that transcends traditional genres within the Pacific Islander community. Her work epitomizes a seamless fusion of diverse musical influences, drawing heavily from her cultural upbringing and personal experiences.

As a dancer in her formative years, Lady Shaka regards music as a potent vessel for movement, communication, and storytelling, transforming electronic music into a contemporary yet indigenous art form.

Lady Shaka made a significant mark on the music scene in 2021 by representing Aotearoa at Boiler Room TV, a pivotal platform for global music. As part of the queer collective Filth, her debut performance was a heartfelt tribute to Pacific Island culture, positioning her as one of the first Pacific Islanders to DJ on this influential platform. Her performances have since garnered acclaim, including appearances at the Boiler Room Festival in London and Naarm (Melbourne), where she became one of the first artists to offer live mixes in Spatial Audio on Apple Music. Her talents have not gone unnoticed; she was recognized as one of the ‘Best of 2021’ by Boiler Room TV and served as a judge for the ‘Broadcast Lab competition.’

DURIO (SG)

MOMO || BAOWBAOW || ATTAGIRL!

INSTAGRAM / SOUNDCLOUD

They say lyrics are the soul of a song, and it is the misheard lyrics of “Do it Again” by Chemical Brothers that sounded like “Durian” sparked off the music magic, hence the name DuriO.

DuriO is a founding member of MOMO, BAOWBAOW, a duo Bass music collective and ATTAGIRL!, an all-girl non-profit collective. Her musical journey has taken her to DJ at various parties in Singapore, Malaysia, NYC, Tokyo, India and festivals like Zoukout, Keong Saik Carnival and Outlook Festival Japan among others.

Her current selections are Bass-centric genres under the UK Bass umbrella such as UK Garage, Grime, Jungle, and a touch of Reggae-Dancehall. However, she believes in not restricting herself to a particular genre and is ever evolving in her music game as she progresses.

C2AC (SG)

INSTAGRAM / SOUNDCLOUD

Visual Artist and DJ, C2AC fearlessly blends a C2tuation of spitting hot vogue chants and dark demented beats, crafting the chic elegance of ballroom with the divergent velocities of Jersey, Techno, Bitch Bass and Baile Funk. Besides being a DJ for the Singapura Ballroom scene, C2AC has enraptured crowds at legendary gatherings such as Bussy Temple, Intervention Party, Endless Return and the illustrious Club Chrome.

CARDOPUSHER/SAFETY TRANCE (Barcelona, Spain)

Venezuelan-born Luis Garban, known as Cardopusher, has been a force in the underground electronic scene since the early 2000s. Originally drawn to jungle, IDM, and hardcore, his sound has evolved into a darker fusion of icy wave, industrial, and leftfield reggaeton. Under his Safety Trance alias, Garban pushes boundaries even further, crafting futuristic soundscapes infused with cyberpunk atmospheres and mechanized rhythms. Known for collaborating with avant-garde artists like Arca and Sega Bodega, and releasing on Boysnoize Records, his tracks, like “Lágrimas” and “Arena!,” disrupt genre conventions and deliver an intense, experimental rave experience. Whether it’s pounding industrial bass or glitchy reggaeton-infused beats, Safety Trance creates a raw, visceral sonic world that feels both fierce and innovative

A co-founder of the queer underground collective Non Non Non in Bangkok, her sound is both chaotic and boundary-pushing, reflecting her journey navigating the world as a queer trans woman. With her eponymous debut album on Stroboscopic Artefacts, Wanton Witch quickly gained recognition for her ability to deconstruct and reimagine electronic music, earning praise from Resident Advisor and Mixmag Japan. Their unique sonic style deconstructs traditional musical motifs and reconstructs them into something subversive and boundary-breaking. YETPET‘s sets are known for taking the crowd on a journey through deep, dark, and experimental sounds, offering a fresh perspective on electronic music. Whether performing solo or with Strange Weather, YETPET’s distinctive sound is both chaotic and hypnotic, making them a standout in Singapore’s underground scene.

HAAi (Australia)

A need for experimentation, exploring new sounds and new ways of making music – the inspiration driving HAAi, the Australian-born London-based DJ who continues an incredible couple of years by releasing her first EP on the prestigious label Mute Records. HAAi, aka Teneil Throssell hosted Coconut Beats parties in Dalston which led to shows on Rinse FM and Worldwide FM, and eventually to a prestigious residency at the London club Phonox where Throssell played Saturday nights for two years (up until autumn 2018), a rarity in the city’s nightlife.

As her residency came to end, BBC Radio 1 broadcast her Essential Mix which went on to win the accolade of the Essential Mix of the Year, alumni of which include Helena Hauff, Caribou, Nicolas Jaar, Flying Lotus and Ben Klock. HAAi was then granted a monthly Radio 1 slot, which continues into 2020.

HAAi has won over crowds at renowned events such as Sonar Festival, Glastonbury, Tomorrowland, been responsible for an incredibly memorable Boiler Room and found an ever-increasing fanbase internationally who have bought into her eclectic selections.

HAAi’s taste in music is unique and diverse, revelling in tracks full of intricate detail and character. Her sets are infused with heavy bass lines – from breaks to thumping techno – as well as all manner of percussive elements.

RAUMTESTER

(Berlin)

Raumtester (with his real name being Sergei) is a Smalltown boy from Russia based in Berlin now. Over the past decade he has come a long way from an enthusiastic EDM listener to a resident of game-changing musical collectives. He is a fresh and outstanding face of the new wave of Techno artists whose appearance is complemententing and exciting the international electronic music scene.

Raumtester has been DJing professionally since 2015. During this time, he has managed to be a resident of parties and promotional groups which have formed the electronic dance scene of Russia (Resonance Moscow, System108, Mutabor and Popoff Kitchen) and also to create his own queer party series and a radio show on Test FM «квир мир» (translates as queer world from Russian) with the average attendance of 1000 people. For the last 3 years he has been a resident of the first Russian queer techno party Popoff Kitchen and of the biggest and most respected club in Russia Mutabor (ex Arma-17). Due to his disagreement with the current political situation relating to the war in Ukraine and with attitude towards LGBTQI+ community, Raumtester had to leave Russia. His international career started 4 years ago during which he had managed to play in most European capitals and cities (Germany, Ukraine, France, Portugal, Greece, Italy, etc.). As a DJ in constant research of a balance between the deep existential experi- ence of modular techno and the emotional euphoria of trance’s various spectrums, he formed a skilled style seamlessly stitching togeth- er the genres of the old school and the new school. His musical palette is the natural reflec- tion of his thoughts about the rhythms that reso- nate the inner vibrations of the human body. His musical vision garnered him invitations to record mixes and perform for many respected platforms including Boiler Room, Crack Magazine, HÖR, Ransom Note, Rinse FM etc.

Raumtester always pushes the envelope and finds new ways to express himself as an artist through different forms of art. He has collaborat- ed with GQ Germany, Dazed & Confused, i-D, Love magazine and others spreading his ideolo- gy worldwide.

After moving to Berlin Raumtester now has new “Räume” (rooms) surrounding him which he has yet to test. He explores what can be electronic music today and continues the endless journey into the mystery of the hypnotic and never-ending loop.

At the Alicia CC, we provide a judgement free space for those seeking the social and peer support that other institutions are unable to.
