Speakers:

Bozy Lu, Partner, Han & Lu Law Chambers

Bestlyn Loo, Pro Bono Counsel

Moderater: Rei Kurohi, Committee Member, Same But Different.

Set in the idyllic Mae Hong Son countryside, THE PARADISE OF THORNS is a story about a gay couple, Sek (Pongsakorn Mettarikanon) and Thongkam (Jeff Satur), who run a durian farm. Sek dies after an unfortunate accident, leaving Thongkam in a Mao Shan Wang-level bitter struggle with Sek’s family over the durian farm. What could Sek and Thongkam have done to ensure that each of them will still benefit from the fruits of their love even if one of them passes away?

What recourse do you have if someone smacks you on the head with a durian? What self-help or pro bono options are available if you can’t afford a lawyer?

Join us at this special screening of THE PARADISE OF THORNS with a post-show discussion led by lawyers from Same But Different. They will be referring to scenes from the movie to discuss estate planning, criminal law and pro bono assistance.
